ADD SOLUTION
SIEM & SECURITY ANALYSIS

Thousands of events. The challenge is discovering which of them tell the same story.

Firewalls, endpoints, servers, identities, applications, cloud environments and network equipment continuously produce events about what happens in the infrastructure.

The challenge is not just storing them.

Add Solution designs and implements SIEM architectures capable of centralizing, normalizing, enriching, and correlating telemetry to turn scattered events into context for security detection, investigation, and decision-making.

ENGENHARIA APLICADA

FROM LOG TO CONTEXT

An isolated event tells us something. Related events can explain what happened.

Firewalls, endpoints, identity, servers, cloud environments and networks observe different aspects of activity. SIEM brings this evidence together to improve understanding.

FIREWALL + ENDPOINT + IDENTITY + SERVER + CLOUD + NETWORK → SIEM → CORRELATION → CONTEXT
The value lies not only in storing events, but in being able to use them when a question needs to be answered.
TELEMETRY SOURCES

Each control observes one part of the environment.

Integrations depend on the capabilities available. More sources do not automatically mean greater visibility: we need to collect what provides value for the use cases.

COLLECTION & INGESTION

Before correlating events, we need to receive them reliably.

Syslog, agents, APIs, connectors, event forwarding, and other supported methods must account for volume, latency, availability, buffering where applicable, communication security, and capacity.

PARSING, NORMALIZATION & ENRICHMENT

Different logs need a language that allows them to be related.

RAW EVENT → PARSING → FIELDS → NORMALIZATION → ENRICHMENT → SEARCH / CORRELATION

Assets, identity, geolocation, threat intelligence, criticality and inventory can enrich the data according to the architecture.

Centralizing data without structuring it may only centralize complexity.
CORRELATION

Context emerges when events that seemed independent are analyzed together.

ATYPICAL LOGIN + ENDPOINT ALERT + UNUSUAL CONNECTION + ACCESS TO CRITICAL RESOURCE → CONTEXT

Time, identity, asset, source, destination, behavior, and sequence help guide the analysis without automatically confirming an incident.

Correlation does not eliminate the need for analysis. It helps direct it.
USE CASES

A SIEM starts delivering value when we know which questions we want to answer.

Use cases connect risk, context, criticality, baseline, sequence, frequency, exceptions and priority.

01Authentication failures
02Authentication followed by unusual activity
03Administrative change
04Change to a critical configuration
05Suspicious endpoint behavior
06Communication with a risky destination
07Privileged account use
08Events correlated across controls
Collecting everything is no substitute for defining what we want to detect.
DETECTION

Detection must represent relevant behavior, not merely generate alerts.

Rules and use cases must reflect risk, context, criticality, baseline, sequence, frequency, exceptions and priority.

A good detection is not one that triggers more often. It is one that improves the quality of the investigation.
MITRE ATT&CK

Frameworks help organize the strategy. They do not replace knowledge of the environment.

Tactics and techniques can support mapping, coverage, use cases, and gap analysis. Mapping rules to ATT&CK does not mean complete coverage.

ALERT ≠ INCIDENT

Not every event is a threat. Not every alert is an incident.

The distinction prevents technical signals from becoming conclusions without investigation and process.

01

Event

Something happened.

02

Alert

A condition deserves attention.

03

Investigation

The evidence is analyzed.

04

Incident

The context confirms the need for handling in accordance with the process.

INVESTIGATION

The question is not only “what triggered?”, but “what happened before and after?”

The timeline, user, asset, processes where available, source, destination, related events, context, history and searches help reconstruct the scope.

BEFORE → EVENT → CORRELATION → AFTER → SCOPE → CONCLUSION
Investigation turns alerts into understanding.
THREAT HUNTING & INTELLIGENCE

Not every investigation needs to begin with an alert.

Hypotheses, behaviors, intelligence, anomalies, and evidence can guide hunting. Indicators, reputation, and context enrich the analysis when available.

Intelligence adds context. It does not automatically turn an indicator into an incident.
IDENTITY & PAM

Many technical events gain meaning when we know which identity was involved.

Authentication activity, MFA, privileges, administrative accounts, sessions and changes add context when available.

PAM & Identity Security Zero Trust & Secure Access
ENDPOINT

Processes, executions, and connections deepen the investigation.

EDR/XDR can share telemetry, alerts, users, connections, and responses, depending on the integrations available.

Endpoint Security (EDR/XDR)
CLOUD

When workloads move to the cloud, security telemetry must follow them.

Control plane, identity, workloads, networking, services, and audit logs vary by provider and platform.

Cloud
XDR ≠ SIEM

XDR and SIEM can share objectives without having the same scope.

EDR provides deeper endpoint insight; XDR can correlate certain domains; SIEM centralizes, searches and correlates events from varied sources according to the architecture. They can coexist and integrate.

SIEM ≠ SOC

SIEM is technology. Security operations require people, processes, and response capabilities.

SIEM + PROCESSES + PEOPLE + PROCEDURES + INTEGRATIONS = OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY
A tool generates signals. Operations turn signals into decisions.
DASHBOARDS & VISIBILITY

A dashboard must answer questions, not just fill a screen.

Security, sources, events, detections, assets, identities, trends, and collection health must serve an operational purpose.

RETENTION & SEARCH

When an incident is discovered today, the evidence needed may lie in the past.

Retention, volume, storage, performance, search, and applicable internal, contractual, or regulatory requirements guide the architecture.

EVENTS/DAY × RETENTION × VOLUME → ARCHITECTURE / COST
CAPACITY & COST

Collecting everything without a strategy can increase costs before it increases security.

EPS, GB/day, retention, sources, data value, duplication, filtering, and architecture must be analyzed without relying on universal figures.

Telemetry must justify its operational value.
SIEM HEALTH

A silent source can create a false sense of visibility.

Collectors, connectors, agents, sources, latency, volume, parsing, storage, queues and failures also need monitoring.

We also need to monitor what monitors security.
AI & Observability
TUNING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

The environment changes. Detections must change too.

False positives, new applications, assets, risks, behavioral changes, rules, sources, and priorities require review.

DETECT → INVESTIGATE → LEARN → ADJUST → DETECT BETTER
SIEM should not be treated as a project with an end date.

PERGUNTAS FREQUENTES
