When multiple paths are available, intelligence lies in choosing the right one.
Branches, data centers, cloud, SaaS applications and the internet have turned enterprise connectivity into an increasingly distributed architecture.
In this scenario, having available links is only part of the solution. Quality, availability, applications, priorities, security and the behaviour of each path must also be understood.
Add Solution designs, implements and evolves connectivity and SD-WAN architectures that use different access technologies in a coordinated manner, providing greater control, visibility and resilience for distributed operations.

A link connects two points. An architecture connects the business.
Modern environments connect branches, headquarters, data centers, cloud, SaaS, the internet, partners and external services through different access technologies.
The architecture organises these relationships according to criticality, applications, quality, security, availability, cost and location.
Connectivity ceases to be merely transport when it starts informing application decisions.
From link-based connectivity to application-aware connectivity.
Traditional architectures make decisions predominantly based on routes, topology and availability. These factors remain relevant and do not become obsolete.
SD-WAN adds abstraction, policies, visibility and the ability to select paths based on quality, application and other criteria. It can combine different technologies, but it is not a universal replacement for MPLS.
Traditional connectivity
Routes, topology and availability define forwarding.
SD-WAN
Policies, telemetry and application context broaden the decision.
Different applications may need different paths.
Policies and measurements can direct traffic through paths better suited to its characteristics, without absolute promises.
Voice & collaboration
Sensitive to latency, jitter and loss.
Transactional systems
May require stability and predictability.
Backup & transfers
May prioritise capacity over latency.
SaaS & cloud
May use direct access depending on the architecture and security requirements.
An available link does not necessarily mean a healthy path.
Latency, jitter, packet loss, availability and congestion describe distinct dimensions. A path may remain technically “up” while no longer meeting the needs of a particular application.
Availability answers whether the path exists. Quality answers whether it still serves its purpose.
Link redundancy delivers resilience only when the architecture knows how to use the links.
Multiple providers, technologies and paths can take primary, alternative or active roles depending on the solution and policy.
Having two links is redundancy. Knowing when and how to use them is architecture.
Modernising connectivity does not mean discarding what already works.
MPLS, dedicated internet, broadband and 4G/5G can coexist. The best architecture uses each technology where it adds value.
The more distributed the operation, the more important a common policy becomes.
Headquarters, branches, stores, distribution centres, plants, offices and remote environments require standardisation, provisioning, policies, visibility, security and room for growth.
SD-WAN can facilitate geographically distributed management while respecting the actual capabilities of each platform.
When applications moved out of the data center, connectivity also had to change.
A branch may need to access SaaS, public cloud, the internet, a data center and other sites. Local internet breakout and cloud connectivity are architectural decisions, not universal shortcuts.
Explore Cloud & VirtualisationDistributing connectivity also distributes security decision points.
Encrypted tunnels, segmentation, firewalls, application control, policies, identity and secure internet access may be part of the architecture.
Connectivity defines paths. Security defines which communications should travel through them.Explore Cybersecurity
Related concepts, but not equivalent.
SD-WAN focuses on connectivity and the intelligent use of WAN paths. SASE is a broader model that brings networking and security together, often through distributed services.
When an application is slow, knowing which path it took changes the investigation.
The link used, latency, jitter, loss, utilisation, application, policy and path changes help distinguish “the link is up” from “the application is delivering a good experience”.
Monitoring connectivity is important. Understanding the experience that travels through it is even more important.Network Performance & Visibility
When the problem lies in transport, the investigation must continue beyond the firewall.
Identification, diagnosis, evidence, carrier engagement, follow-up, escalation and restoration validation are part of the cycle.
Add Solution has hands-on experience following up and interacting with telecom carriers in distributed environments.

05Um link “up” pode estar degradado?
Sim.
