FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
Complete answers for Ubiquiti architecture, deployment and operations decisions.
01Will the AP's advertised rate be the user's speed?
No. PHY rate is a characteristic of the radio link under specific conditions. Usable throughput is lower and depends on the client, channel, interference, distance, protocol, contention and wired path.
02Can every PoE switch power any UniFi AP?
No. The PoE standard, power per port, total budget, voltage/method where applicable, and the SKU's consumption must be checked. An insufficient budget can limit the number or operation of devices.
03Can I use UniFi APs with my current firewall?
Yes, if the architecture and requirements are compatible. DHCP, routing, firewall, VLANs and authentication can remain on existing components, provided responsibilities and integrations are validated.
04Does Wi‑Fi 7 require a 10 GbE switch?
Not as a universal rule. The AP's uplink and expected load determine the required port. For example, the U7-Pro-Max reviewed here has a 2.5 GbE uplink; other models may have different interfaces.
05How many clients does an AP support in practice?
The catalog limit is not a design target. Application profiles, airtime, bands, signal, roaming and contention determine the experience. Sizing must use demand and acceptance criteria.
06Does mesh replace cabling?
It can serve specific situations, but it uses radio for backhaul and can reduce capacity or predictability. Where feasible, wired backhaul usually provides a more controllable foundation.
07Is UniFi Network listed as a product in this page's catalog?
No. Here it is treated as a management dependency for switches and APs, with version and architecture to be confirmed. Commercial selection remains restricted to the two authorized equipment types.
08What information do I need to provide to begin the assessment?
Floor plans, areas, number and types of clients, applications, current switches/APs, cabling, power, VLANs, authentication and observed issues. Do not send credentials in the initial conversation.
